Transitions
posted October 24, 2009 by Kaye Ireland
Fall is the time of year when there are many changes in Tennessee. Night-time temperatures drop, leaves become bright with color. Summer clothing is replaced by warm, snuggly sweaters.
As October comes to an end, football games, chili, caramel apples and Halloween are on the minds of some of us. Others are already planning holiday events and shopping. At a few of our unheated historic homes, they’re making preparations to close up for the winter. The rest of the sites are decorating for the holidays in period fashion.
It seems to me the transitional months can be the busiest, too. We go from hot, humid summertime to Indian summer, then that first chilly night seems to trigger a flurry of activity to get things done “before the holidays" or “while the weather’s still good.” Raking leaves, winterizing tools, boats and gear take up weekend time between ball games and fall events.
Give yourself permission to make your transition relaxing…plan to savor the rest of autumn activities with your friends and family. Then, take a deep breath and calmly drift toward the holidays with a sense of purpose.

This is my last blog entry because I am making my own transition…into retirement. I’ll be taking my own advice to enjoy the seasons, travel a bit, explore my hobbies, and spend time with my husband, Jerold. Watch for future blog posts from the CVB staff. ~Kaye
