Mansker's Station & Bowen Plantation House

Historic Mansker's Station

An authentic reconstruction of the 1779 frontier forted station typical of Kasper Mansker's first fort, Manskers Fort allows you to experience the lifestyle of early settlers in the 18th century.

Through "living history" demonstrations you can touch the hand-hewn timbers, hear the steady click of the spinning wheel, see the blacksmith work, and smell the smoke of the cook fires.

The first weekend in May the fort site comes alive with the 18th Century Colonial Fair. Living History encampments are also scheduled throughout the year.  See our events calendar for more information.

The Visitor Center includes a gift shop and artifact displays.

Bowen Plantation House

The oldest standing brick structure in middle Tennessee, the Bowen Plantation House was completed in 1787 by Captain William Bowen of Virginia, for his wife and nine children. Their grandson, William Bowen Campbell, became governor of Tennessee.  Docents in period costume take you through the home and demonstrate how the family lived.  You might find them baking bread, spinning flax or tending the gardens.

Hours of Operation:
Tues - Sat 9:00 - 5:00
(Admission includes both sites, last tour begins at 4:00)
